All Law in Preston Offers Lasting Power of Attorney Services to Help People Plan for the Future

Preston-based law firm All Law is helping individuals and families plan ahead with Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA) services, providing legal guidance and support to give people greater control over their future.

Planning for the future isn’t always easy, but putting the right legal arrangements in place can provide peace of mind for both individuals and their loved ones.

All Law, based in Winckley Square, Preston, is offering Lasting Power of Attorney services to help people make important decisions about who they would trust to manage their affairs if they were no longer able to do so themselves.

A Lasting Power of Attorney is a legal document that allows someone to appoint one or more trusted individuals, known as attorneys, to make decisions on their behalf if needed. This can be particularly important if a person loses the mental capacity to make certain decisions independently due to illness, an accident or other circumstances.

There are two types of Lasting Power of Attorney in England and Wales. A Property and Financial Affairs LPA allows appointed attorneys to manage matters such as bank accounts, bills, property and investments. A Health and Welfare LPA allows attorneys to make decisions about medical treatment, care arrangements and day-to-day welfare, but only when the person is unable to make those decisions themselves.

Although LPAs are often associated with older people, they can benefit adults of all ages. Unexpected illness or an accident can happen at any stage of life, making it important to consider future planning sooner rather than later.

Without a valid LPA in place, family members may not automatically have the legal authority to manage someone’s finances or make certain decisions about their care if that person loses mental capacity. In some circumstances, an application to the Court of Protection may be necessary, which can involve additional time, expense and administration.

By helping clients prepare and register their Lasting Powers of Attorney, All Law aims to make the process as straightforward as possible, ensuring individuals understand their options and can make informed decisions about who they appoint.

A spokesperson for All Law said: “Making a Lasting Power of Attorney is an important step in planning for the future. It’s about having a say in who can make decisions on your behalf if you’re ever unable to do so yourself.

“We understand that thinking about losing the ability to manage your own affairs can be difficult, but putting an LPA in place can offer reassurance to you and your family. Our aim is to make the process clear and accessible, providing the advice and support people need.”

An LPA must be created while the person making it has the mental capacity to understand the document and the authority they are giving to their chosen attorneys. It must also be registered with the Office of the Public Guardian before it can be used.

All Law encourages anyone considering making a Lasting Power of Attorney to seek legal advice to ensure the documents reflect their wishes and circumstances.

Whether planning ahead for later life or simply wanting to ensure arrangements are in place for the unexpected, having a Lasting Power of Attorney can help provide reassurance and protect an individual’s interests.
